PMQ Courtyard, Central
28 Nov – 7 Dec 2025
From 28 November, a vast matrix of mirrors will rise within the atrium of PMQ. Arranged at various heights, angles, and inclinations, they form the Path of Code – a labyrinthine structure that refracts its surroundings and transforms the atrium into a kaleidoscopic landscape.
The familiar architecture of Hong Kong’s L-shaped public housing blocks is abstracted, multiplied, and turned against itself. What was once utilitarian becomes uncanny. The city reflects the city, endlessly.
Codes rarely convey direct messages. Their seemingly chaotic geometrical patterns raise the question: is there hidden meaning beneath the randomness?
When confronted with patterns we cannot decipher, we feel the uncanny – a quiet fear of the unknown. Yet over time that strangeness ignites imagination. The unfamiliar becomes fertile ground for fantasy.
Is it a maze of reflections or a crystalline megasculpture shimmering like a giant jewel?
That question is left to the beholder.
About IE Lab
Through this latest experiment, architects Henry Leung and Alien Chan explore the interplay between aesthetics and space from multiple perspectives, employing unconventional materials to uncover new spatial possibilities. Their innovative approach generates unexpected, deeply immersive environments through full-scale 1:1 prototypes that bridge concept and reality while expanding architectural boundaries.
Merging local Hong Kong traditions with contemporary expression, they create works that foster dialogue between art and architecture in the city we call home.
