Hope in Books
Standard Chartered Book Festival
The Book Festival should not be only a marketplace for book sales. It should be an event to celebrate the pleasure of reading and it is an event about PEOPLE. A contrast is drawn between the high-density book market area and the spacious reading space. It is a carnival, at the same time a leisure reading space. Through different methods of bamboo building, the interactivity of “open” and “close”, simple design and scales, making a fun reading space.
This year’s book festival is themed “Reading for Hope”. The venue is designed with bamboo art to show the virtual and real space, allowing readers to enjoy the fun of reading in a large space while appreciating the works of designers. Stepping into the Victoria Park handball court, 100 “house-shaped” book stalls made of bamboo, mainly in blue, green and white, are in sight. Henry Leung, a representative of IE Lab who assisted in the venue planning, pointed out that he hopes to break the format of the traditional book fair and use “bamboo” stalls to create a reading atmosphere.
