Unity of Life

Heritage x Art x Design Exhibition

The architectural design team IE Lab has recently participated with the centerpiece design for the “Heritage x Art x Design” exhibition organized by “Hulu Culture” at Tsuen Wan Park this year. The art structure titled “Unity of Life” has been inspired from the “sharing” culture of Hakka people which is part of the local history in Tsuen Wan. We hope you will enjoy your visit to the exhibition, and discover the possibility between art and architecture.

The positioning of a centre hall in their Tulou round dwellings demonstrates clearly that the culture of the Hakka people has a focus on “sharing”. To emphasise this point, the central hall uses a self-rotational geometric design to let participants view the beauty of a balanced and even structure. The project is also designed in such a way that different effects formed from light and shadow are produced during different time of the day. The inspiration for this design comes from polymerised bamboo chopsticks and symbolises the spirit of solidarity and the cohesion of Hakka people.
